Organic Courgette, F1 Dunja
Courgette - F1 Dunja: Cucurbita pepo var. cylindrica
- Dark green, speckled courgette with excellent texture and taste.
- High yield and high pest resistance.
- Sow from April (indoors), May (outdoors).
- Harvest: July - October.
Courgette is French for small squash or marrow and that is exactly what they are, tender skinned marrows harvested young. They are technically a fruit as the part we eat is the ripened ovary of the flower in the same way as tomatoes and peppers and courgettes are also closely related to cucumber, pumpkins and squashes. The flowers can be stuffed, sautéed, baked or used in soups.
Dunja F1 is a hybrid courgette which gives high yields of dark green, finely speckled fruits of excellent quality. Dunja F1 is very popular amongst organic growers due to its broad pattern of resistances to virus and its mildew resistance.
Sow: April (indoors), May (Outdoors). Sow in good organic seed compost at a temperature of 18-20°C. Pot on when the first true leaves appear and harden off allowing 60cm spacing.
Grow: Prefers a sunny spot with very fertile soil. Water heavily, avoiding the leaves. Feed every 2 weeks with potash tomato liquid fertiliser.
Harvest: July to October. Regular picking will encourage a longer cropping period.
